Gosport used car dealer Clever Car Collection features on BBC Radio 4

The Clever Car Collection featured on BBC Radio 4’s You & Yours programme this week discussing our customer service and home delivery sales.

Our Gosport-based used car dealership was invited on to the show to talk to presenter Shari Vahl as part of a discussion on people’s experience buying second-hand cars.

Some 40% of the cars the Clever Car Collection sells are delivered to people’s homes across the country and our Joe Wallington explained how our award-winning customer service and detailed adverts had given buyers confidence to purchase from afar.

He explained that we offer more than 80 pictures of each car we list for sale and a detailed walkaround video so customers can get a good idea of what cars are like before they see them.

He said that the videos go to great lengths to show off any marks or imperfections so customers can have a full understanding of what they’re buying before they have it delivered.

The Clever Car Collection offers nationwide home deliveries at a cost of £1.50 a mile and has delivered cars as far as Scotland, Wales and deep into the West Country.

Joe told the BBC: ‘I would say probably 40% of our sales are now being delivered. We're based on the South Coast in Gosport and we send cars nationwide. 

‘People really build a rapport with us. We go the extra mile for them. We try and find the problems so if there are things in the paintwork and scratches and such like, we make a real point in our video saying you are buying this car and this is what it is like so they can make a decision. 

‘But at the same time, we manage that expectation from the outset to say, these are the marks you're going to get on this vehicle and it's priced accordingly.

'And I think that, combined with our reviews really means that people are confident buying and we have great success selling cars remotely.’

The Clever Car Collection has won Highly Rated status from Auto Trader for its customer service two years running, in 2024 and 2025. The Gosport based secondhand car dealership has five star reviews on Auto Trader and Google.

BBC You & Yours presenter Vahl also asked what happens if things go wrong with cars that have been delivered around the country. 

Joe explained that our 12-month extended warranty option offers cover and we do our utmost to help our customers out.

He said: ‘If it's local, they come out to us. We can continue that customer service, but we partner with very good warranty companies that offer our customers help to get work done near them.’
